As a food charity, the role that Food from the Heart plays is one that necessitates balancing practicality (sustenance) with a caring heart. Stomachs need to be kept filled, but caring for our beneficiaries means more than just that; the nutritional value of the food we give, as well as the positive spirit of giving are also part of being thoughtful towards them.
It is with the same spirit that we were thrilled to hear that 225 boxes of 4-piece premium mooncakes had been specially purchased for our beneficiaries two weeks before Mid-Autumn Festival, courtesy of an individual donor, Miss Cheng.
After all, receiving festive goodies past festive celebrations is not an uncommon occurence at Food from the Heart.
"The mooncakes really perked up their moods! Knowing that they were going to have mooncakes gave them something to look forward to, and they were really appreciative," says Elsie Chia, founder of LC Nursing Home and Food from the Heart community partner.
Food from the Heart constantly tries to balance the different aspects of meaningful giving, trying to fill the stomachs of more beneficiaries in a variety ways that bring joy. Read more about our other initiatives from earlier this year, such as Project Belanja! and Pop-Up Fresh Produce Market.
