Making a Tax Deduction for Donation in Singapore with Food from the Heart

At Food from the Heart, your giving carries both immediate and lasting impact. As an Institute of Public Character (IPC) status food charity based in Singapore, we are recognised for ensuring that every contribution is channelled into alleviating food insecurity by providing reliable, consistent, and sustainable food support for those in need. When you give, you not only nourish lives but also benefit from donation tax relief in Singapore.

Our mission revolves around sharing hope, nourishing lives, and reducing food waste, all while fostering a compassionate community that cares for one another. We focus on our five core programmes: Bread Run, Community Food Pack, Community Shop, School Goodie Bag, and Market Place. Through these programmes and our other initiatives, we have been able to touch the lives of tens of thousands of beneficiaries each year, including underprivileged students, families in need, and individuals facing food insecurity.

By donating to Food from the Heart, you enable us to continue our food distribution efforts, ensuring that nutritious meals reach those who need them most and alleviating the struggles that come with food insecurity. Together, we can create a society where everyone has access to reliable, nourishing food, and promoting a better quality of life for all.

  1. Full name as per IC / Organisation Name
  2. IC Number / UEN Number

  4. Contact Number

Should you wish to receive a printed copy, kindly inform us accordingly.

If your donation qualifies for tax deduction, the receipt issued by Food from the Heart will clearly state "Tax Deductible." Donors who do not provide the necessary details, even after attempts to clarify, will be considered anonymous.

Can I claim tax deductions for donations made through payroll or GIRO to Food from the Heart?

Yes. Payroll giving allows donations to be deducted directly from your wages, while GIRO enables regular transfers from your bank account. When you provide your NRIC or FIN at the point of donation, these contributions are automatically reflected in your tax assessment.

Can businesses claim tax deductions for donations to Food from the Heart?

Yes, businesses in Singapore can claim tax deductions for donations made to Food from the Heart, as we are an approved IPC. By making corporate donations to our IPC-status charity, businesses not only fulfil their corporate social responsibility but also enjoy tax benefits.

For companies or individuals seeking to claim tax deductions, it is essential to provide your full name, identification number or tax reference number (e.g. NRIC/FIN/UEN) to us when making the donation. This crucial information allows us to issue tax deduction receipt, enabling donors to claim tax benefits for their charitable contributions.

Can I claim tax deductions for donations made by my company's employees or on behalf of my company?

Yes, companies and bodies of persons can claim tax deductions for donations made to approved IPCs, including Food from the Heart.

Donations are generally considered non-deductible expenses as they are not incurred in the production of income. However, tax deductions are allowed for approved donations, including those made to IPCs to benefit the local community.

For donations made from 1 Jan 2016 to 31 Dec 2026, companies can claim a tax deduction of 2.5 times the amount of approved donations. To claim tax deductions on approved donations, companies are required to provide their Unique Entity Number (UEN) to the approved IPC. The approved donation amounts will be pre-filled based on information obtained from the IPCs, enhancing the filing experience.

Am I eligible for tax deductions if I make an anonymous donation to Food from the Heart?

Anonymous donations are always welcomed with gratitude, but they cannot be recorded for tax deduction without donor details. If identification such as NRIC, FIN, or UEN is not provided, the contribution will be treated as anonymous, even after follow-up attempts.

Are donations with benefits tax deductible?

Tax deductions are generally given only for the portion of a donation that goes beyond any benefits received. For example, if a donor receives gifts or privileges in return, the deductible amount is the difference between the donation and the value of those benefits. However, when benefits are deemed to have no commercial value, the full donation may still qualify.

What happens to the money that I donate?

Your donations are channelled into two main areas: purchasing food for our School Goodie Bag, Community Food Pack and Community Shop programmes, and covering operating expenses to ensure safe and timely food delivery. Every dollar goes into sustaining our mission, and fulfilling our shared purpose of sharing hope and nourishing lives.

Can I donate items in-kind to Food from the Heart?

Yes, Food from the Heart warmly welcomes in-kind donations to support those in need. We invite you to contribute non-perishable food items from our donation wish list to fill our food packs. You can conveniently deliver these items to our warehouse located at 130 Joo Seng Road #03-01, Singapore 368357.

Our warehouse gladly accepts in-kind food donations from Monday to Friday, between 9am and 6pm. If you find it challenging to deliver the items within this timeframe, we also have a food donation box placed outside our office, allowing you to drop off non-perishable food items even when our office is closed.

In addition to physical donations, some donors choose to order food through online grocery platforms like FairPrice and RedMart and arrange direct delivery to our office. This seamless process helps ensure that your contributions reach those in need promptly and efficiently.

With your generosity and support, we can continue to provide essential sustenance to lower-income families, the elderly, and others facing food insecurity in Singapore.
